Mourning the loss of Prof. Dr. Dres. H.C. Arnold Picot

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Prof. Dr. Dres. h.c. Arnold Picot, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on July 9, 2017.

Prof. Dr. Dres. h.c. Arnold Picot was born in Gmunden, Austria, in 1944. After completing a banking apprenticeship and studying business administration, he earned his doctorate and habilitation at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and took over the chair of business administration, specializing in corporate management and organization, at the University of Hanover in 1976. In 1984, he accepted the chair of General and Industrial Business Administration at the Technical University of Munich before becoming director of the Institute for Information, Organization, and Management at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich in 1988. In 1998, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, and in 2002 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of St. Gallen. He was chairman of the Munich Circle (a supranational association for communication research), a member of various scientific advisory boards, executive boards, and commissions, as well as supervisory boards and advisory boards in business practice, and (co-)editor of several journals, series, and anthologies. His research focused on fundamental questions of economic theory, organization and corporate management, and the interactions between new technologies and the structures of companies and markets.
